Where are they now: ZECT Troopers

Ever wonder what happens to tokusatsu costumes? Every week a new monster shows up and gets defeated, and most likely that suit will never be seen again (unless they do one of those resurrection episodes near the end of the series with 20 bad guys). Luckily for the ZECT Troopers (the weak yet strong-willed guys Kamen Rider Kabuto), they’ve been retooled for another debut on Kamen Rider Den-O. Congratulations, ZECT Troopers – you’ve crossed into another Kamen Rider universe!

Just found this poster of Dragon Fly on HJU (posted by none other than August Ragone, ex-Century King, who’s actually releasing a book on Ultraman soon), and it seems pretty polished. I was a bit worried about the colors when I initially saw it in the previous post, but it actually looks nice here.

If you’re a big tokusatsu fan, you’re bound to fantasize about your own original show. One fan, however, is making it reality with his new project Dragon Fly. The entire production is being done in Hawaii, where Kamen Rider and Kikaida were big hits (JN Productions, makers of the translated Kamen Rider V3 DVDs, are based in Hawaii). So far only a part of the suit has been officially shown, with plot loosely explained as “pretty much Kikaida meets ‘X-Files.” You can read more about Dragon Fly here.

According to actress Kathleen Gati’s website, she was a guest star in Kamen Rider Dragon Knight and also lists that the director was Steve Wang…and that the network is Cartoon Network! It’s possible that she put that down without being 100% sure, but it’s better than nothing.
[Update: The title of the show reads Kamen Rider Black Knight, which might be a mistake on her part. The plot thickens!]

March 1st (Thursday) – 3rd (Saturday)
Filming weren’t done on these days, so the production was on break.
Well, not really, since there’s a mountain of things to do.
The acting and production department both went to clean a building at Nikotama River where filming will take place on 3/6. This western style building will be the stage of a major action scene and is destined to be destroyed after filming. It’s a restaurant that went out of business long ago, so it’s full of dust and bugs. Even the insides of your nostrils will turn black without a mask on.
It’s the art and costume department’s job to turn this building into a “living” restaurant. Following the plans made by a designer, the building will be decorated with tables, chairs, lights, blinds, several hundred alcoholic beverage bottles, flowers, tablecloths, dishes, silverware, and paintings of Shocker. We call the food and drinks that we use on film as “vanishers,” but we don’t bring them in until the day we shoot.
In these three days we’ll also prepare clothes for the actors, fitting of the Rider suits, meetings with the director to go over the storyboards, Kato Kazuki-san’s [note: Kazami Shiro] wine décantage, official events, and much more.
(Today’s image is the filming schedule that we follow each day. The next day’s schedule is passed to the staff members one day before filming. I always looked forward to assistant director Takahashi’s drawings and notes near the bottom right.)

Want to look ultra cool like THE NEXT V3? Get the Project BM! Kamen Rider THE NEXT Inspired Jacket! Costing only 79,800 yen ($678), you can get your henshin on a budget! Well, maybe it’s not for everyone, but it’s pretty cool nonetheless to look at. This version of the jacket, unlike THE FIRST jacket, is made of polyurethane and horse leather that make it washable.
I remember seeing Kyomoto Masaki (played Taki Ryusuke on Kamen Rider Black) wearing THE FIRST jackets on TV, and wow, my respect for him shot through the roof.

For those who don’t know, Kamen Rider Dragon Knight is an American adaptation of Kamen Rider Ryuki that’s scheduled to air on March 2007 on Cartoon Network (still unconfirmed). According to the website it will run through 2008, with a feature-length movie being released in 2009. The series is being handled by Adness Entertainment based in Los Angeles, California and four episodes have been completed thus far. You can watch the (outdated) official trailer below and see what Dragon Knight‘s all about!

Two of the three main character have been replaced since the release of this trailer (old promo image). Matt Smith was replaced by Stephen Lunsford for the role of Kit Taylor (Kamen Rider Dragon Knight). Kandis Erikson has replaced the previous actress for the role of Maya Young, whose name I can’t seem to find. Matt Mullins is still Len (Kamen Rider Wing Knight). There was a rumor that they walked out on the director but that turned out to be a false rumor and the two in question were apparently let go.
Keep in mind that the story has been rumored to have been rewritten has well, so don’t be surprised when the show eventually airs. Keep your eyes peeled for the Kamen Rider Dragon Knight merchandise coming in May 2008 – finally, domestic Kamen Rider toys!

Ever wanted to be a Shocker member? The Shocker Leader Clock will get you closer to that dream with orders from the Great Leader like “It’s 12 o’clock! Go defeat Shocker’s mortal enemy, Kamen Rider!” or “It’s 3 o’clock! Plans for world domination are progressing smoothly!” and a green light that illuminates when the Great Leader is speaking. The Great Leader is apparently a nice guy, as the clock has a built-in sensor that detects the amount of daylight so that you don’t get ridiculous orders to defeat Kamen Rider 4 in the morning! Not bad for 21,000 yen ($178), right? Right?
The clock is currently open for pre-orders and will be released late October or early November.

Found an interesting blog called Kamen Riders Funclub with Photoshopped Kamen Rider images. It seems a little dead at the moment (created 6/2/07, last post 7/22/07), but it’s pretty cool! The above picture is based on the iconic movie poster from Spider-Man 3 when Spidey was taken over by the symbiote. Other images include zombified Stronger and Tackle, Dark Kabuto Venom, and “what if” Den-O video game screenshots.
